About Me

Annie helps schools and districts, nationally and internationally, teach literacy. She works with school leaders to craft instructional plans in response to data, and leads hands-on, practical staff development to put these plans into action.

Annie’s teaching career began when she got her first chalkboard and made her younger brother play school. Her first official teaching position was in Honolulu, HI. Ready to return to the East Coast, Annie relocated back to her hometown of Brooklyn, NY and taught at P.S. 8.  She spent over a decade as a staff developer for the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. As a Senior Lead Staff Developer, Annie pioneered work around argumentation, debate and high-impact, doable small group work.

Annie received her BA from Duke University, her MA from Teachers College, Columbia University, and her microcredential in the Science of Reading from SUNY New Paltz. She is the co-author of The Research Based Argument Essay, Grade 5 and The Art of Argument: Research Based Essays, Grade 7 from the Units of Study in Opinion, Information, and Narrative Writing. She also presents at conferences on literacy, including NCTE.

Her belief is that children need great schools. She creates whole school action plans to promote change and foster teacher leadership. Her plans are practical and can be implemented right away. Teachers and leaders leave her PD ready to dive in.

In her free time, Annie likes to cook, hike, ski, read, and take her mini sheepadoodle, Henry, on long walks. She’s also very involved in nonprofit service, including serving as a board member for HeartShare St. Vincent’s Services.
